Tom White, Sr.

Tom White, Sr., of Ozark, Arkansas, died Friday, August 22, 2014 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was born January 31, 1940 to Fred and Cleo White in Chicago. He graduated from Ozark High School in 1957 and attended Arkansas Polytechnic College in Russellville, Arkansas. After a short stint in the credit loan industry in Northern Louisiana, Tom and his family returned to Ozark to work in the cattle business. Later, he became the Arkansas Livestock Market Reporter for the Northwest Territory through the University of Arkansas. Tom enjoyed a long career in trading and marketing cattle through various companies. On the morning of his death, Tom was working and was employed by Cattle Marketing Service. Tom was a member of First United Methodist Church and enjoyed life. His special interests were his family, livestock, any Texas Hold’em tournament and fishing. Tom also loved Ozark and its rich history. Every Wednesday Tom and his buddies met at the Ozark Railroad Museum to discuss Ozark history and revel in the days past. Tom proudly referred to this special group of friends as the “Dead Pecker Club”. He loved to tell stories and joke with people and never met a stranger. He was preceded in death by his father Fred and mother Cleo and sisters, Judy and Arlene. He is survived by his wife, Sandra; a son Tom White, Jr. and wife Theresa, and grandson Tom White III (Tripp) of Ozark; Raymond Morse and wife Tammy, grandson Brandon and granddaughter Linsey of Fort Smith; Brad Morse and wife Merle and granddaughter Lauren of Mulberry; three great grandsons, infant Cooper Lee, Infant Kail Jamison and Aiden Jacob, age 5. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 25, 2014, at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel in Ozark with Brother Paul Coy and Reverend Al Terrell officiating and burial will be at Highland Cemetery in Ozark, under direction of Shaffer Funeral Home. The family will visit with friends from 2:00 until 4:00 pm Sunday, August 24, 2014 at Shaffer Funeral Home, 2315 West Commercial Street in Ozark. Serving as pallbearers are Delbert Hollis, Al Terrell, John Terrell, Bob Howard, Mark Woolsey, and Michael Durning; honorary pallbearers are Charles Ray White, Paul Jenkins, Larry McCreary, Buell Swaim, Bud Rue, John Paul Woolsey, Otto Haberer, and Scott Sanderson.
