Marie Elizabeth Hoing

Marie Elizabeth Hoing passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, December 9, 2016 after a long battle with kidney failure, surrounded by her loving family. She was born June 22, 1919 in Coal Hill, Arkansas to George Frank Butts and Ira Francis (Frankie) Amison Butts. She will be with her beloved husband, Leon (Bud) with whom she shared her life for seventy-three years and who died April 19, 2008, and with her beloved son, Charles Edward Hoing, who we lost on November 19, 2007. She is also preceded in death by her cherished brother, George Truman Butts. She leaves behind her two daughters who were the pride and joy of her life, Mary Elizabeth Links of Irving, Texas and Lynda Ann Harrington and her husband Danny of Ozark, Arkansas. She also leaves behind her loving and adored ten grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren, a niece and a nephew and their families. She also leaves behind her beloved companion, her dog Charlee who always stayed in her lap or by her side. She was a member of Coal Hill Church of Christ since 1959, the Eastern Star Chapter 172 since 1956, and a Gold Circle Member of the Ladies Auxiliary. Marie loved to be outside in her garden where she grew beautiful plants, shrubs and flowers. She loved to travel and visit new places. Numerous people came to her from other places in search of information about their loved one and she was always able to give them valuable information and/or provide the history of Coal Hill. She had this amazing memory all the days of her life. Her greatest wish was to be able to stay in her home, be self-sufficient and take care of herself. She met this goal and amazed everyone with her determination. Our mother was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister, and shall be missed every day of our remaining lives. Her strength in fighting this uphill battle is enviable. She never complained nor questioned why she just met every challenge with strength and love. She lived her life with grace and dignity. Her beauty inside and out was never flaunted; her intelligence and perceptiveness was never conspicuously displayed but her heart of gold was obvious to all who came in contact with her. A sweet, kind, loving, loyal, shy, understated woman is not enough to describe her. Everyone who came in contact with her admired her. To find a purer, kinder, gentle person would be a feat in itself. Humanity has suffered a great loss and her family will always be grateful to have had her in our lives. Mother, may you rest in peace. Our lives will not be the same without you and we will miss you every day. Our love for you is eternal. A very special thank you is given to Dr. Michael Coleman, Jr. and his nurse Angie who took such wonderful care of mother and who she considered a trusted friend. Viewing will be held from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM Sunday, December 11, 2016 at Shaffer Funeral Home, 2315 West Commercial Street in Ozark. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, December 12th with Brother Jim Wilson, IV, officiating and interment following at Coal Hill Cemetery under direction of Shaffer Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers are Todd Phillips, Donald Hagan, Ken Pinkston, Josh Pinkston, Shane Shepherd, Ronnie Wolfe, Tyler McKinney, and Holden Brasel.
