Henson Dunn

Henson was born December 29, 1923 in Braden Bottom to Harley and Lucy Dunn. He was the second of three children, Ima Fay (the oldest) and JC (the youngest). He met, fell in love and married Mary Ellen Tidwell in 1943 and they started their family, Henson, Jr., Marlin Perry, Allen Dale, Timothy Lee, Larry Joe Dwight, Sandra Gale and Jacqueline Ann. In 1989 he lost Mary Ellen, his loving wife and mother of his children, to cancer. In 1991 he met and married Linda Lynch. They remained married until his death June 30, 2013. In 1949, in Arkoma, Oklahoma, Henson made a commitment to serve the Lord. He pastored churches in Arkoma, Race Track, Ringling, Crossroads, Jethro, Leonard and Ratcliff. He was known far and wide for holding Gospel Meetings across Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas. He has a host of people of whom he led to Christ and friends, mostly in the church, with whom he has worked in his Ministry that will miss him and his belief in the Lord. In an effort to support his family he has had a multitude of vocations, building and remodeling houses, building cellars, a barber(with five boys you had to learn to cut hair), setting trusses with a boom truck, being the top sales person at Brackeen Lincoln Mercury selling cars, raised chickens. And in his spare time took his children fishing and poke salad hunting. He was all about “life lessons” like finger wrestling, leg wrestling, checkers, baseball and his unforgettable baking soda diet. He was successful in all these things and was never on facebook or the internet and never owned a cell phone. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at North side United Pentecostal Church in Fort Smith with Brother Carl Newton, Mark Bishop and Joe Dunn officiating with burial at 3:30 PM at Vernon Cemetery in Coweta, Oklahoma, under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home. He is survived by all seven of his children and their spouses, plus his brother J.C.’s sons Steve and Johnny. Also are his half-brothers Kenneth and Randy and his favorite cousin Betty. He was preceded in death by granddaughter, Brittany Bishop. His most treasured legacy is his grandchildren. He leaves sixteen grands and thirteen great grands that all have their own special memories of respect and love. Everyone close to him learned to respect his manner, honor his devotion to the lord and the true meaning of LOVE. The family will visit with friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at Shaffer Funeral Home 2315 W. Commercial in Ozark. Pallbearers will be Dennis, Levi, Aaron, Joe Don and Shane Dunn and Benjamin Bishop and A.J. Smith. Honorary will be Dusty, Matt, Slater, Paden, Johnny and Steve Dunn, Caleb Smith, Larry Wisdom, Gavin Litke, Jordan Foster and Trent Gilliam. His legacy will live on as he has affected so many.
