Gordon W. McCain Sr.

Gordon W. McCain Sr. age 85, of Franklin County, Arkansas, passed away February 13, 2025 in Ozark, Arkansas. He was born January 10, 1940 in Mulberry, Arkansas to David Hansel McCain Sr. and Eleanor Grace Hollingsworth McCain. Gordon was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Fairview Baptist Church. He was a heavy equipment operator on the Arkansas Dam system through the 1960’s, in the 1970’s and 80’s he was a farmer, he was elected Sheriff of Franklin County and served in that capacity for two terms, he was then employed with the United States Marshall Service providing federal courthouse security, he retired in 2009. He was a past member of the Air National Guard, the Arkansas Sheriff’s Association and International Union of Operation Engineers. Gordon was also a member of the Arkansas Archaeological Society. He enjoyed the outdoors, collecting arrow heads, fishing and hunting, and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Gordon is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Larry Glenn McCain. Gordon is survived by three sons, Gordon William “Mack” McCain Jr. and wife Lenora Christine, Christopher Harmon McCain and wife Jeanette, and Jonathan Andrew McCain and wife Mary Christine all of whom live locally; one brother, David Hansel McCain Jr and wife Teresa of the Pleasant View Community; one sister, Evelyn Kay McCain Love and late husband Alan Love of Farmington, Arkansas; sister-in-law, Malynda Hawkins McCain; five grandchildren, Emmarie C. Foerester, Gordon W. McCain III, Christopher Crayton McCain, Presley Jean McCain Embry, and Colin Andrew McCain; and eleven great grandchildren. Open Viewing Visitation will be 1:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M., Sunday, February 16, 2025 at Shaffer Funeral Home, 2315 West Commercial Street in Ozark. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M., Monday, February 17, 2025 at Shaffer Funeral Home in Ozark, with Brother Mike Pennington, Gordon William “Mack” McCain Jr. and Jonathan McCain officiating, with burial at Hight Cemetery Sandy Branch Road in Mulberry, Arkansas. Serving as pallbearers will be Bobby Frank Harmon Jr., Brandon Wade Harmon, Colin Andrew McCain, Samuel David McCain, Gordon W. McCain III, and Matthew James Foerester. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Mark McGee, Curley Bankston, Charles Stacy, Joe Powell, Rick Dean, Lonnie Turner, Fred Moon, Bob Whitson, Bobby Frank Harmon Sr., and Tim Whitson. Everyone is invited to join the family wearing bib overalls to honor Gordon.
