Edna Frances Vernon

Edna Frances Vernon, 91 of Springdale, Arkansas, passed away Friday, May 29, 2026 at the home of her daughter in Springdale, Arkansas. She was born at home October 26, 1934 in Ozark, Arkansas to Roy Nichols and Lois Ann Elizabeth Middlebrook Nichols. Edna Frances retired from Paris Public Schools as the District Treasurer. She was an active member of the Arkansas Association Educational Office Professionals in addition to serving as Secretary and Treasurer of the Arkansas Extension Homemakers Circle. She was a longtime active member of the Methodist Church serving as the organist and pianist for Methodist churches throughout her life – at Ozark, Arkansas, Yellville, Arkansas along with Paris and Coles Chapel congregations. She was a dedicated member of the Olivia Varnell Circle and was actively involved in the Busy Homemakers. Edna Frances was an avid gardener, who loved well-kept flowerbeds. She was an excellent seamstress sewing for her children and others, In the summer months when her husband Aldon’s garden was producing countless vegetables you would find her working late canning and freezing produce for the family lor finding someone to take the overabundance of vegetables – especially cucumbers. She spent many hours painting woodwork crafts her husband Aldon created and participating in craft shows. She loved her family and cherished time spent visiting with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was also very proud of her Ozark Arkansas graduating Class of 1952 – keeping up with many of her classmates via class reunions and through Facebook as they too aged in this life. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 61 years, Aldon Vernon; her brother, Roy Garland Nichols; and her sister, Opal Earline Mayner. Edna Frances is survived by two sons, Dale Vernon and wife Janice of Springdale, Arkansas and Greg Vernon and wife Liz of Charleston, Arkansas; one daughter, Frances Marline Vernon of Springdale; four grandchildren, Zach Vernon and wife Vanessa of Golden, Colorado, Anna Vernon of Nederland, Colorado, Jamie Vernon and wife Jessica of Ozark, Arkansas, and Laura Glidewell and husband Ryan of Lavaca, Arkansas; six great grandsons, Reed Glidewell, Henry Vernon, Parker Glidewell, Dutch Vernon, Hayes Vernon, and Noah Glidewell; and her beloved cat, Buddy. Visitation will be 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M., Thursday, June 4, 2026 at Shaffer Funeral Home, 2315 West Commercial Street in Ozark. Funeral will be 2:00 P.M., Thursday, June 4, 2026 at Shaffer Funeral Home in Ozark with Brother Bill Van Meter officiating, with burial at Highland Cemetery, Highway 64 West Commercial Street in Ozark. Serving as pallbearers will be Jamie Vernon, Ryan Glidewell, Zach Vernon, Roy David Nichols, Greg Vernon, and Dale Vernon.
