David Berry

David Berry, 87, of Altus, Arkansas went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 in Clarksville, Arkansas. He was a Master Mechanic of heavy equipment and a certified welder; his career took him many places. Because of his honesty and work ethic he was always in demand. He worked on the Arkansas River Bank Stabilization Dikes and Levees, Pensacola Construction, Massman Construction, and retired from Farrell-Cooper Mining Company in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving as a Chief Machine Gunner in the Korean from 1948- 1951, and supervised a crew of five other members. He was a member of the River Valley Community Church in Ozark. He was born to Harold Glen and Lena Yother Berry and raised in Altus. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Don Berry. He was a self-taught and educated young man by the grace of God, his mother having died when he was age nine. He raised his younger brother, his love for his family was remarkable, he taught his sons right from wrong and they were the highlight of his life. David is survived by his wife of sixty years, Ivis White Berry of Altus; three sons, David Craig Berry and wife Kim of Van Buren, Arkansas, William (Bill) Berry and wife Rebecca of Ozark, and Chief Master Sargent Brian Berry, retired USAF and wife Teresa of Choctaw, Oklahoma; three grandsons, Jacob and Jonathan Berry of Ozark and Micheal Berry of Indiana; and two great grandsons, Flynn and Gunner Berry. Graveside service will be held 10:00 AM Friday, November 10, 2017 at Fort Smith National Cemetery with Brother Jan Akins officiating under direction of Shaffer Funeral Home of Ozark. Serving as pallbearers are Truman Phillips, Paul Gates, Craig Berry, and Brian Berry. Memorials may be made to River Valley Community Church, P.O. Box 697 Ozark, Arkansas 72949. When I am gone, remember I’m with Jesus Then do not mourn because I’ve passed away Life holds so many griefs and disappointments And will you cry because I did not stay? Tis only for a spell we must be parted Not many years on earth to us are given And when my savior tells me you are coming I’ll go with him to welcome you to heaven. Grieve not because the eyes that looked upon you Shall never see your face on earth again Rejoice because they look upon the savior Who gave his life to ransom sinful men. Weep not because I walk no longer with you Remember I am walking streets of gold Weep for yourselves, that you awhile must tarry Before the blessed Lord you may behold.
