Bennie Mack Chancey

Bennie Mack Chancey, age 81, of Ozark, Arkansas, passed away, Friday, December 30, 2022, in Charleston, Arkansas at the Greenhurst Nursing Center. He was born October 4, 1941, in Webb City, Arkansas to Grady Chancey and Ina Ada Walden Chancey. Bennie was of the Baptist faith. He was a graduate of Ozark High School. He also served in the United States Air Force for four years and was stationed in Thailand as an Instrument Repairman working on airplanes. He earned the rank of Sergeant and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. He started his career December 3, 1968, with Arkansas Valley Electric Cooperative Corporation as a Work Order Material Clerk and he was promoted to Work Order Accountant in 1988, where he continued in this position until he retired in 2003. He was instrumental in the creation of River South Water Users where he served on the board for many years. Bennie is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Jack Chancey; two sisters, Brenda Honey and Yvonne Woolsey; and one granddaughter, Kaitlyn Thompson. Bennie is survived by his wife of 53 years, Carolyn Chancey; one daughter, Dana Halmes and husband Jody of Ozark; two sons, James Chancey and wife Rachael of Hot Springs, Arkansas and Kevin Chancey of Caulksville, Arkansas; five granddaughters, Amber Ross and husband Dusty, Maebry Gosnell and husband Justin, Hannah Halmes, Brenna Chancey, and Elaina Chancey; five great grandchildren; one sister, Wilma Schuler and husband Wayne of Basehor, Kansas; one brother, Grady Chancey Jr. and wife Ermel of Ozark; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Friday, January 6, 2023, at Shaffer Funeral Home 2315 West Commercial Street in Ozark. Funeral service will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, January 7, 2023, at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel, with Brother Jan Akins officiating, with burial at Highland Cemetery in Ozark, under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers will be Jody Halmes, Justin Gosnell, David Sosebee, James Honey, John Milam, and Curtis Milam. Honorary pallbearers will be the men and women of Arkansas Valley Electric.
