Bob Bevil

June 13, 1942 - February 25, 2021

Bob Bevil, 78, of Ozark, owner/operator of The Spectator, passed away Thursday, Feb. 25, 2021, at Mercy Hospital in Fort Smith. Born in Paris, Ark., on June 13, 1942, he was the son of Erwin “Buster” and Velma Ruth Bevil. He started working at the Spectator office while attending Ozark High School and then in 1960, after graduation, went to work in Fort Smith at SW Times. In 1962, he then worked at Northwest Times in Fayetteville, moving to El Dorado in 1967 taking a job at the El Dorado Times. In 1968, he was offered a job by former Ark. Gov. Orville Faubus at the Spectator in his hometown. Later, he bought the business from Shrimp and Short Murray, which he still owned at the time of his death. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 60 years, Patricia Rue Bevil of Ozark. Also surviving him is his daughter and husband, Tracey Lynn and Paul Kendrick of Altus; two sons, Todd Bevil of Ozark, and Michael and wife Zulphia Trotter of Spring-dale; two sisters, Pat Hill of Ozark and Nina Banks of Fort Smith; three grand-children; Alyssa Ann and husband Jason Brown of Ozark and Kolden Louis Kendrick of Altus; and Jordan Bevil of Fayetteville; five-great-grandchildren, Kinzie Lynn, Kalie Jo and Kain Louis Lindsey of Ozark and Kylie Marie and Khole Jane Hankins of Pottsville; and two step-great-grandsons, Jason Odell Brown of Van Buren and Jackson Kole Brown of Ozark and Loved by many nieces and nephews. Bob was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and loved his family in a very special way. A hunter, fisherman and avid outdoorsman, his favorite place to be was his cabin, with his family and friends. Serving as pallbearers were Paul Ray James, Danny McBride, Ted Skolarski, Nicky Gilsinger, Mike Gilsinger, Wayne Davis and Robert Jones Honorary pallbearers were Kolden Kendrick, Paul Kendrick, Jason Brown, Dave Rickard, Larry Vernon, Frank Medlock, Paul Dale Tedford and Fabian Tompos. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 1, at 2 p.m. at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Brad Elrod officiating with Lonnie Turner as special speaker. Interment following at Duncan Cemetery, north of Ozark. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 504 West Commercial in Ozark.
