Thomas Walter Rosson

Thomas Walter Rosson 83, of Harrison, Arkansas died Tuesday, August 5, 2014 in Harrison. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service; member and former president of the Fort Smith branch of the National Association of Letter Carriers; a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, serving with the 1st Provisional Marine Brigade that went to Korea in 1950, known as the “Fire Brigade”; during the Korean War he served with Dog Company 2nd Batalion 5th Marines; participated in the following actions at the Pusan Perimeter: Sachon Offensive, Battle of First Naktong, and Battle of Second Naktong; he was wounded in Action of September 3, 1950 in the Battle of Second Naktong He was presented with the Purple Heart Medal, China Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal; Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon, Presidential Unit Citation (Foreign) Medal for the Republic of Korea; and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal. He attended the D-2-5 Marine Corps Reunions for the past twenty years. He was born April 3, 1931 in Ozark, Arkansas to Walter and Era Williams Rosson. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Gilbert Rosson . He is survived by his wife, Louise Woolsey Rosson of Harrison, a daughter Roxanne Rosson and a son Thomas Brent Rosson Sr., and his wife Kim, both of Harrison; a sister Willa Dean Holmes of Jackson, California; Three Grandchildren, Dr. Thomas Brent Rosson, Jr. and his wife Hannah of Maumelle, Arkansas; Bryan Lee Rosson, and Daniel Brooks Rosson both of Harrison; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will visit with friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Thursday, August 7th at Shaffer Funeral Home, 2315 West Commercial Street in Ozark. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, August 8, 2014, at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel in Ozark,and burial at 1:00 PM Friday at the Fort Smith National Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Dr. Thomas Brent Rosson, Jr., Bryan Lee Rosson, Daniel Brooks Rosson, Robert Stanley Woolsey, Jr., Dr. Jason Daniel Woolsey, James William Woolsey, and Jack Weston Woolsey. Honorary pallbearers are Robert L. Rosson and Thomas William Rosson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
