Phyllis G. Reed Darling

Phyllis G. Reed Darling, 75, of Alma, Arkansas, moved into the presence of Jesus on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, in Alma. She was born March 25, 1949, in Conway, Arkansas, to James Everett and Winnie Bernice Koone Reed. She was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Leon Hill; and sister, Ruby Miller. She was a graduate of Conway High School and UCA where she was in the Alpha Sigma Tau Sorority. Phyllis retired in 2014 as an IT Officer for Bank OZK. In 1972, Phyllis and Ted Darling were united in marriage as they began a life together serving Baptist Churches while he served on staff and pastored for over 50 years. As a pastor’s wife, she unselfishly gave of herself in so many capacities. She was church pianist, church organist, Sunday School teacher, counselor, Precept Bible facilitator, choir director, choir member, and Women’s Ministry leader and speaker. She served with the Arkansas Baptist Disaster Relief in Incident Command as Administrator and sang with the ABSC Master’s Singers. After her love for Christ, she immensely loved her family. She was a godly model for her daughters and grandchildren. Phyllis enjoyed devoting time to them and investing in them. Seldom did she ever miss an event in their lives. Phyllis is survived by her husband of 52 years, Ted Darling of Alma; two daughters, Holly McCormick and husband Tom of Ozark, and Courtney Satterfield and husband Neal of Alma; three sisters, Jean Lybarger and husband Sonny of Conway, Sue Spradlin and husband Jerrell of Vilonia, Ann Hastings and husband John of Clinton; four grandchildren, Katelyn Kirkpatrick of Mulberry, Abigail McCormick of Ozark, and Rylee and Cooper Satterfield of Alma. Open viewing will be from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. November 1, 2024, at Shaffer Funeral Home, 2315 W. Commercial in Ozark. Family will visit with friends Friday, November 1, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Ozark First Baptist Church Activity Center. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 2, 2024, at First Baptist Church of Ozark with Pastors Brent Williams, Terrell Romberg, and Justin Murphy officiating with burial at Highland Cemetery under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Ed Darling, Jimmie Darling, Nathan Kirkpatrick, Tommy McCormick, Wyatt Lowrey, Rodney Orr, Cooper Satterfield and Neal Satterfield. Honorary pallbearers will be Eagle Crest Golf Course Friends and Arkansas Baptist Disaster Relief Volunteers.
