Johnny A. Dunahoo

On July 19, 1933, Johnny A. Holloway came into this world kicking and screaming in Altus, Arkansas. On July 8, 2020, she left this world peacefully in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Mom was born to, in her own words, “The best looking couple in Franklin County,” Arthur and Lorene Harbottle Holloway. She was named for her maternal grandfather, John T. Harbottle, Sr., or as he was lovingly called, ‘Daddy Bottles’. Eighteen months later she was joined in life by her best friend, her sister, Ethel, “Sissy” Holloway. Mom and Aunt Sissy grew up in Altus with a loving and unforgettable group of family and friends. Born with a naturally outgoing and engaging personality, as well as an unbelievable amount of energy, mom never met a stranger. In early 1951, she began dating the love of her life, Bill C. Dunahoo. They would marry on April 4, 1952 in Altus. Together, over the course of their thirty six year marriage, they would raise four very lucky children, Billy, Jan, Sherry, and David. They remained devoted to each other until Dads passing on April 23, 1986. Throughout her life, Mom held a variety of jobs: Housewife, Beautician, and Store Clerk; but the job she enjoyed most was her final job, working as a Para-Professional at Ozark Elementary. Mom, still bursting with energy and enthusiasm, loved working with little children. She always tried to make each child feel special and loved. Mom was preceded in death by her hero and role model mother, Lorene, by her best friend and sister ‘Sissy’; and by the true eternal love of her life, husband Bill. She leaves behind with a lifetime of wonderful memories, her four children, son Billy C. Dunahoo, Jr. and wife Kathy of Altus; Daughter Jan Miller and husband Gene of Newton, North Carolina; daughter, Sherry Peterson and husband Kevin of Houston, Texas; and son, David Dunahoo and wife Rebecca of Fayetteville. Left with wonderful memories of ‘Grandma Johnny’ are her nine grandchildren, Andrea Dunahoo, April Dunahoo Roberts, Dr. Elizabeth Miller, DE Miller, Sydney Peterson, Trey Dunahoo, Shelby Peterson Boggan, Delaney Dunahoo, and Kenna Dunahoo; six great grandchildren, Rowan Schamburek, Reece Medlock, Deidra Roberts Elder, Adrian Roberts, Braxton Dunahoo, and IV Miller; one great-great grandson, Ethan Schamburek; and a nephew, John Musgrove; she also leaves behind her beloved “Peterson Girls”, sister cousin, Earlene Jennings, brother cousin Dale Vaught, cousin Jimmy Harbottle, and a truly countless number of dear friends and extended family. Funeral service will be held 10:30 AM Monday, July 13, 2020 at Shaffer Funeral Home with burial at Nichols Chapel Cemetery with Brother Kendall Ross officiating under direction of Shaffer Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers are the Grandsons, DE Miller, Trey Dunahoo, Brandon Roberts, Fred Goss, and Sean Boggan, Great Grandsons, Reece Medlock, Adrian Roberts, Braxton Dunahoo, IV Miller, Benny and Ethan Schamburek, Jonathan Elder, David Kendrick, and Nathanial Lem. Honorary Pallbearers are Jim Rofkahr, Bill Young, Don Burns, Lonnie Turner, Dale Vaught, Newt Shaffer, Don Ed Shaffer, David Shaffer, Jack Shaffer, Dale Trotter, Bobbie Eveld, Peggy Bartlett, Linda Oldham, Ladies of F.O.E. Auxiliary, John Musgrove, Gene Miller, Kevin Peterson, Tyler Everett, Bill Gossage, Jimmy Pledger and Jimmy Harbottle. Open visitation will be held from 2:00 PM until 9:00 PM Sunday, July 12th at Shaffer Funeral Home, 2315 West Commercial St. Ozark, Arkansas.
