John Crowley Earp

John Crowley Earp, 68 of Ozark, Arkansas passed away suddenly on Friday, October 28, 2016. He was born on May 4, 1948 in Anderson, Indiana to Robert and Catherine Crowley Earp. He was a 1966 graduate of St. Mary’s High School. He received a basketball scholarship to play at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. While he was attending college, he was a member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity, he worked as a guard at the Texas State Prison, and he graduated in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and a minor in Psychology. John began working at Delco Remy in Anderson, Indiana in 1970. On October 28, 1978 he married the love of his life, Doris Gresham Earp, and they remained in Indiana until 1987 when his job moved the family to Lewisville, Texas. He continued to work for AC Delco and retired from General Motors in 2000. After retirement, he and Doris moved to Arkansas and bought a farm. He enjoyed spending time working with his cattle, working in the hay field and everything else that a farm involves. He was an avid car enthusiast, he loved to hunt and fish, and his passion was traveling all over the country for car races. He was involved with the Watalula Volunteer Fire Department and was a member of the Cattleman’s Association for a number of years. He spent most of his days in his shop working on cars, equipment or anything else he could find to work on. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Doris Gresham Earp of the home; 2 daughters, Angie Owen and husband Lane; and Audrey Tooley and husband, Lynn, all of Ozark; 3 granddaughters, Ashleigh Crooks, Alicia Black, and Taylor Owen all of Ozark; and 1 grandson, Jacob Tooley also of Ozark; 1 brother Robert Earp and wife, Margie, of Kent, Ohio; 1 sister, Catherine Earp Francis and husband Jack, of Chicago, Illinois; a cousin, Jack King of Suttons Bay, Michigan; and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Services are under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home. Visitation will be Monday, Oct 31 from 6-8:00 p.m. and services will be held on Tuesday, Nov 1 at 10:00 a.m. at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel in Ozark, Arkansas with Brother Philip Housdan officiating. Burial will be at Gar Creek Cemetery north of Ozark. Pallbearers will be Jacob Tooley, Hunter Black, Forrest Skolarski, Tim Reynolds, Matt Reynolds and Bob Earp. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jack King, Don Gresham, Mike Carter, Larry Thomas, Red Beers and Rich Lowry.
