Billy Gayle Shankle

Billy Gayle Shankle age 76 passed away surrounded by family at his home in Ozark, Arkansas Tuesday, September 21, 2021 in Ozark. Known by his handle “Whipper Snapper” he was a cross-country truck driver and later transitioned to the oilfield retiring after 50 years; as well as maintaining his CDL, he was a skilled heavy equipment operator, pusher, owner of Shankle Field Services and ultimately retiring as a salesman for Samco. An All-around cowboy; he enjoyed his time on the rodeo circuit, team roping and riding an occasional bull. Bill was an avid outdoorsman; hunting, camping with his family and friends especially fishing from his flat bottom boat. Above all his greatest treasure was his family, whom he cherished most. He was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Bill was born June 5, 1945 in Wagoner, Oklahoma to W.B. “Bill” and Wilma L. Simpson Shankle. He is preceded in death by parents and a granddaughter, Piper Shankle. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Suzanne Timmerman Shankle; his children, Trey Levi Shankle and wife Misti of Ozark, Jamie Edgin of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Sidney Shankle of Ozark, special daughter/niece, Brandy Stewart and husband Nathan of Ozark and step-son Kiley Moore of Ozark; one brother W.C. “Dub” Shankle and wife Claudine of Mulberry, Arkansas; and six grandchildren, Griffin and Harper Shankle of Ozark, Maggie Rose and Weston Wright of Hot Springs; Brennan and Sawyer Stewart of Ozark and a seventh, Baby Hester, on the way. Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday, September 23, 2021 at Shaffer Funeral Home 2315 West Commercial Street in Ozark. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, September 24, 2021 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Brother Kent Boyd and Brother Dale Richardson officiating under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home with burial Oak Ridge Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Joe Rath, Don Dombek, Steve Wickens, Barry James, Scottie Wright and Kiley Moore. Honorary pallbearers will be The Men of the Church, Jim Battles, , Mark Case, Gary Kirchner, John Crockett and Lance Thornton.
