Don Ed Shaffer

Don Ed Shaffer, 68, of Ozark, Arkansas, died Saturday August 17, 2024 in Ozark. He was born June 16, 1956 in Fort Smith, Arkansas to Gus Joe Shaffer and DeEsta Rose Pillstrom Shaffer. He was of a member of the First United Methodist Church of Ozark. Don was an owner and operator of Shaffer Funeral Home, Ozark Nursing Home and had worked as a Franklin County Coroner. He was a member of the National Wild Turkey Federation, a golfer, loved to fish, and was an avid turkey and deer hunter Don Ed is preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Kathy Shaffer; and two nephews, Jason McElroy and Tim Morrow. Don Ed is survived by his wife, Mary Lou McElroy of 48 years, two daughters, Ashley Shaffer Miles and husband James of Ozark and Ivy Shaffer and husband Kevin Kannett of Alma, Arkansas; three brothers, Newton Ray Shaffer and wife Brenda, David Ralph Shaffer and his wife, the late Kathy Shaffer, and Jack Winston Shaffer and wife Jennifer all of Ozark; cousin and brother at heart, Mark Young and wife Stacie of Savannah, Georgia; six grandchildren, Ethan Marcotte of Sherwood, Arkansas, Natalie Marcotte and Harris Marcotte of Ozark, Krosby Kannett and Wren Kannett of Alma, Arkansas and Nora Miles of Ozark. Open Visitation will be held 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday, August 19, 2024 at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel, 2315 West Commercial Street in Ozark. Funeral Service will be held 10:00 AM Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at the First United Methodist Church, 503 West Commercial Street in Ozark, with Brother Brad Elrod officiating, with burial at Highland Cemetery, Highway 64 West in Ozark. Serving as pallbearers will be Richard Carpenter, Randall Bullington, Kendall Howell, WM “Buff” Leding, Jim Rofkahr, Mark Young, and Bobby Morris. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Kevin Lynch, Randy Hillard, Tommy White, Gary Briley, Marty Baker, Kevin Berry, and Otto Haberer. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church, 503 West Commercial Street Ozark, Arkansas 72949 and the National Wild Turkey Federation, 770 Augusta Road Edgefield, South Carolina 29824.
